  9.               The latest drug craze: licking toads! If you  get  the  right
  10.          species,  you  will  get  high  - or sick.  The slightly-poisonous
  11.          slime from a certain species of beautiful, large  green-red  toads
  12.          is  an  illegal  drug  but  owning  such a toad as a pet is legal.
  13.          According to Robert K.  Sager of the Drug Enforcement Agency,  "If
  14.          you  had  a  toad,  we  would have to prove you were licking it on
  15.          purpose."

  17.               In Colonial America, not only was growing marijuana legal, it
  18.          was encouraged by the government.  The  fiber  from  pot,  usually
  19.          called  hemp in this context, was excellent material for the ropes
  20.          and sails that ships of that era used.

  22.               Fifty percent of the people who are killed by bombs  are  the
  23.          people who were trying to make or set the bombs.

  25.               Twenty  percent  of  women visiting emergency rooms are there
  26.          because of injuries inflicted by the men they love.

  28.               Every day 4 women will be beaten to death by  their  husbands
  29.          or boyfriends.

  31.               Ferdinand Waldo Demara, Jr, a high-school dropout, posed as a
  32.          monk,  a  professor  of  psychology,  a cancer researcher, a penal
  33.          officer,  a  teacher,  and  a  surgeon,  all  without  the  proper
  34.          education   or   certification.   As  a  surgeon  he  successfully
  35.          performed amputations and even thoracic surgery.

  37.               There is a policeman in Ontario, Canada who is blind.

  39.               Personal  crimes  (rapes,  robberies,  assaults)  were  up  3
  40.          percent  between  1988  and  1989.  Black and Hispanic people were
  41.          twice as likely to suffer a personal crime in  1988  at  10.4  per
  42.          1000 people, whereas white people had 4.7 crimes per 1000.

  44.               In  Atlantic  City,  since they legalized gambling, the crime
  45.          rate is up nearly 200 percent.

  47.               In Portland, Oregon a man was  arrested  for  car  theft  and
  48.          released  on  bail.  Later the same day, he was arrested again for
  49.          trying to take another car.

  51.               Every day 69 Americans are murdered. Three out of four of the
  52.          victims were related or friends with the murderer.

  54.               Every day 20 banks are robbed. The average take is $2,500.

  56.               American police arrest about 3,000 people per day.

  66.               American  counterfeiters  print  over   one-quarter   million
  67.          dollars a day.

  69.               A  thief  killed Dr. Felix Marsanne and took his wallet which
  70.          was embossed with the initials Dr.  F. M. Three months later,  Dr.
  71.          Felix  Marsanne,  Jr.   worked on a patient admitted to a hospital
  72.          suffering burns from a lightning strike. This patient had "Dr.  F.
  73.          M.   burned  onto  his  chest because he was carrying the doctor's
  74.          father's stolen wallet in his jacket pocket.

  76.               In New York City, car radio theft is so prevalent  that  many
  77.          people  are putting signs in their cars that say, "NO RADIO." This
  78.          is supposed to discourage thieves who would break car  windows  in
  79.          order  to steal a radio. One resident had such a sign, but found a
  80.          window broken one morning anyway. In the car was a note that said,
  81.          "JUST CHECKING."

  83.               Scientific research has been conducted which determined  that
  84.          criminals  convicted in court who are good-looking receive lighter
  85.          sentences than ugly criminals. Only in  cases  where  crooks  used
  86.          their  attractiveness  to  swindle  people  did  they receive more
  87.          severe sentences.

  89.               One car out of every 230 made was stolen last year.

  91.               If you own a new Pontiac Firebird or Trans  Am,  you  run  an
  92.          unusual risk, 29.4 per thousand get stolen.

  94.               In English gambling dens they used to  have  employees  whose
  95.          job it was to swallow the dice if the police arrived.

  97.               You  have  the greatest chance of being assaulted in Arizona.
  98.          North Carolina and  New  Mexico  are  also  assault-likely  places

  101.               Six  percent  of  murders  are  committed  by poisoning, nine
  102.          percent by hitting the  victim  with  an  object,  20  percent  by
  103.          stabbing  and  59  percent by shooting. Eight percent are by other
  104.          means.

  106.               In the past fifteen years, airport  security  personnel  have
  107.          detected  more  than 15,000 guns that people have tried to smuggle
  108.          onto airplanes.

  110.               Nine percent of gun owners admit that they have  fired  their
  111.          guns  is  self-protection,  and seven percent said they have fired
  112.          their guns to scare someone.

  114.               Of gun owners, the average person owns 4.41 guns.

  116.               2%  of gun owners said they feel less safe in their own homes
  117.          because they have a gun.

  119.               In Houston, Texas, a man came in to a convenience store  with
  120.          two  guns  and  announced  to  Wazir  Jiwi, who was the only clerk
  121.          there, that he wanted cash.  Mr. Jiwi  offered  to  buy  one  gun,
  122.          since the robber only needed one. They worked out a deal for $100,
  123.          while  the  clerk  pressed a silent alarm button which also locked
  124.          the front door. The robber offered to abort  the  robbery  if  the
  125.          clerk  would  unlock  the door before the police arrived.  And so,
  126.          the robber escaped.  As it turns out, the clerk ended  up  keeping
  127.          his $100 and the gun.

  129.               According  to The National Rifle Association one out of every
  130.          four Americans  owns  a  handgun.  These  are  handguns,  used  as
  131.          weapons,  not  rifles and shotguns primarily designed for hunting.
  132.          They say four handguns are sold per minute in America.

  134.               A handgun has been invented that has a camera built into  the
  135.          butt  and  a  fiber-optic  lens  mounted along the barrel.  Police
  136.          officers would use this gun, and there  would  be  a  photographic
  137.          record  of the scene at every shot fired. This way, there would be
  138.          no argument as to whether a  perpetrator  had  a  gun.   To  avoid
  139.          tampering,  the  camera  would  be locked with a special key.  The
  140.          film  could  be  taken  out  only  by  another  officer  back   at
  141.          headquarters.
